We’re looking for enthusiastic, hands on Kitchen Assistants to support care home kitchens across Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. Whether you’re bringing existing experience or looking to develop your skills in a new environment, this is an opportunity to learn through practical experience, work alongside an established team and discover what you’re capable of.

You’ll experience the pace and teamwork of a busy kitchen while helping provide meals that bring comfort, routine and enjoyment to residents. From learning food preparation techniques to understanding food hygiene and adapting to changing priorities, every shift offers the chance to develop valuable, transferable skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Support food preparation and develop practical kitchen skills.
• Keep utensils, equipment and workspaces clean, safe and ready for service.
• Help the kitchen team prepare and serve meals on time.
• Follow food hygiene and safety procedures, building your knowledge as you go.
• Restock supplies, stay organised and adapt to the changing pace of service.
• Contribute to a welcoming mealtime experience that supports residents’ comfort and wellbeing.

What We’re Looking For

• A willingness to learn, develop and take on new tasks.
• Kitchen or fast paced workplace experience is beneficial, but not essential.
• A reliable, practical approach and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
• The ability to adapt, follow instructions and respond to changing priorities.
• An appreciation of how cleanliness, food quality and mealtime routines contribute to good care.
• A current PVG or willingness to apply for one.
