Job Description:

ASA are seeking experienced and dedicated Cooks to join our roster of professionals serving in various care homes across Edinburgh. The ideal candidates will be passionate about preparing healthy and appetising meals tailored to the dietary needs and preferences of elderly residents.

Responsibilities:

• To prepare and cook well-balanced meals that meet the dietary needs of residents.
• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
• Prepare ingredients for cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc.).
• Cook food in various utensils and grillers.
• Maintain a clean and sanitised kitchen environment.
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
• Monitor stock and place orders when necessary.
• Collaborate with care home staff to understand residents’ dietary restrictions and preferences.
• Adhere to all health and safety guidelines.

Requirements:

• Valid Right to Work in the UK
• Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a care home or similar environment.
• Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements, especially for elderly individuals.
• Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.
• Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Compassionate and patient, with a genuine interest in working with the elderly.
• Hold a valid Food Hygiene and Food Allergen Certificate
• Has a PVG / Willing to obtain one
• CV covering 5 years work history
