Senior Linux Engineer

Are you an experienced Linux Engineer ready for your next contract in the Scottish public sector?

Our client are currently looking for a Senior Linux Engineer on a 6 month contract with extensions, primarily responsible for implementing, managing and supporting the Linux estate on-prem and in the cloud.

Linux Engineer:

• Design, Implement and manage enterprise Linux environments · Automate the deployment of new components in an Azure/on-premise hybrid environment
• Work with the NRS Cyber Security Team to analyse vulnerability reporting and lead remediation efforts for effected systems
• Administer Active Directory integration to offer single sign on for NRS users and secure SMB file sharing · Develop and execute implementation strategies for automated, centralised and scalable patching and system upgrade services
• Perform performance monitoring and tuning of enterprise Linux environments
• Use VMware vSphere to deploy and manage virtual machine infrastructure
• Troubleshoot environmental issues within the enterprise Linux environment extending into virtualization, storage and physical server infrastructure
• Mentor fellow infrastructure engineers to develop their Linux skills
• Produce procedures, documentation and knowledgebase articles for Linux system administration
• Write change requests for modifications to network & infrastructure
• Offer 1st | 2nd | 3rd line support for any Linux based service issues

Essential Criteria:

• At least 5 years Linux system administration in an enterprise environment
• Scripting skills – Bash, Python
• Proven experience administering infrastructure in an environment where data security is paramount
• Ability to work from home with a proactive approach to problem solving
• Experience in mentoring staff

Desirable Criteria:

• RHEL / Centos Ansible and Satellite
• Infrastructure Automation experience using ARM templates, PowerShell & Terraform
• Load-balancing / reverse proxying knowledge (F5)
• VMware ESXi and SRM configuration and administration
