Our client within the public sector in Edinburgh is looking for Developer. This is a 12 month fixed term contract starting in January 2020.
The Developer role is to support and deliver the design, development, integration and testing of software integration’s between the Core System ERP and our clients legacy systems in accordance with the IT architecture.
It is in order to enhance the business and academic activities of our clients support system modernisation efforts.
The Developer will work to migrate the date from the current HR/Finance systems to the new Core Systems ERP.
Analyst Developers generally work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams developing or procuring new or enhanced software systems but may provide specialist technical input to resolve technically complex or critical support issues.
Essential Skills required:
* Degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in a computer related subject, or significant demonstrable equivalent experience relevant to the job.
* Significant proven success in software development roles with extensive hands-on experience.
* Proven ability to learn new technologies and apply new skills effectively in a range of business environment.
* In-depth ability to develop web based applications in Python or Java, using a framework (preferably Django or Coldspring).
* Strong understanding of a RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server or MySQL preferred) Proficient with SQL(preferably PL/SQL).
* Knowledge of structured software development techniques and tools.
* Systems Analysis and Design techniques.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a flexible approach to problem resolution and an ability to deal appropriately with changing requirements.
* Confidence and maturity to manage personal workload and deliver effective and high quality software systems under pressure and to tight timescales.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills are needed for liaising with others at all levels.
* Strong user focus and team working skills.
* Clear and reasoned commitment to work in this role.
Desirable Skills required:
* A professional qualification or other recognized evidence of competence in software development.
* Experience of the Finance (ABS eFinancials) and/or HR system (Oracle eBusiness Suite) and ancillary related systems.
* Agile development methods.
* Evidence of an ability to provide appropriate technical support for the implementation and integration of a large-scale software package.
* Knowledge of software quality assurance tools and techniques.
* Knowledge of WS01 middleware architecture.
* Knowledge of relevant external standards and UK legislative requirements governing software development, e.g. W3C and Disability Discrimination Act.
* Knowledge of development in ColdFusion, PHP or Java or other web based language.
* Use of Frameworks such as Spring and/or hibernate in Java, Django in Python, Mach-ii and/or ColdSpring in ColdFusion, Drupal in PHP.
* Knowledge of Code Management (eg. Version Control, Release Management) and Automated Deployment/Continuous Integration tools would be advantageous.
* Evidence of an innovation in previous software development work.
* Ability to learn new technologies, and apply these effectively within a variety of business contexts.
* Active interest in technology combined with the vision of how these technologies can bring real benefits in a work environment.
Please note this role may require a Basic Disclosure and core hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
