PHP & GIS Developer

Description

Our public sector client is currently looking for an experienced PHP & GIS Developer to join their team in Edinburgh for an initial 7 month contract.

You will take the lead on the refreshing the mapping capability in their Seed Potato Unified Database System. This includes creating polygons representing planted crops and tested land and automatically splitting a polygon into sub-areas for sampling and complex requirements for display of layers.

The system is currently written using cakePHP1.3, Mapserver 5.6.1 and Smarty 2.6.22.

You will play a significant role in a project which has involved writing software for both capture and display of GIS data using a mapping engine such as MapServer, Mapguide, Deegree or GeoServer.

A developer who has specific experience with mySQL geospatial queries would be advantageous.

We are looking for an experienced developer who can also assist the team in making decisions about what technology to employ.

Requirements:

– A software developer with min 3-5 years’ experience

– Experienced with PHP and has worked on at least one project involving a PHP framework

– Familiar with Javascript and has used JQuery and AJAX

– Self-motivated

– solving problems with minimum supervision but also quick to collaborate and discuss with the customer/systems development manager or software tester where appropriate

– Keen to expand your skill set into different areas and has experience of quickly gaining understanding of new products

– Interested in the open source community and ability to research and advise on appropriate technologies and architecture for SASA to utilize
