Are you an experienced Food Safety Officer?

Are you available for temporary work in the Lochaber area of the Highlands?

We are recruiting for a Food Safety Officer to join our team as soon as possible to support one of our clients in the Highlands on a temporary basis until November 2023. This is a full-time position with 9am-5pm Monday to Friday standard working hours however flexible working is needed to fulfil the requirements of the post. The salary on offer for this role is £30,776.20 – £34,452.60 per annum.

The postholder will undertake the role of Food Safety officer and provide a range of technical and specialist regulatory and advice duties covering Food Safety legislation. They will be responsible for undertaking official control duties, including enforcement at food premises and approved establishments, carry out import and export controls and other duties arising from Food Safety legislation. Some key duties and responsibilities of the role are as follows:

· Carrying out a range of Regulation and Advice Duties as appropriate in terms of delegation and authorisation by the client
· Maintaining an effective working knowledge of the law and practice in relation to Food Safety.
· Contributing to the smooth running of the Environmental Health team by ensuring Performance Targets are met and customer care standards are achieved
· Liaising and working closely with Environmental Health Officers (EHOs), and Senior Environmental Health Officers in their capacity as lead officers, and in relation to special projects
· Preparing internal reports for management purposes
· Ensure that procedures are followed, and accurate records are kept of work undertaken
· Promoting good working relationships with other officers within the company, external agencies and the general public
· To attend seminars, working groups and take part in additional training as deemed necessary
· Occasional work out of hours at evenings and at weekends to carry out inspections, investigations, or any other events as dictated by management and service needs
· Promotional initiatives and events representing the Environmental Health Team

Essential attributes of applicants:
· Experience of Food Safety within a Local Authority Department in relation to Enforcement and Advisory Duties
· Higher Certificate in Food Practice, as awarded by the Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board, or confirmation from the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) of the equivalency of qualifications
· Proven ability in effective written and oral communication
· Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with and manage potentially confrontational situations
· Competence in use of Microsoft Office Software including Word, and Excel to produce documents and spreadsheet
· Ability to work unsupervised and to manage and plan workload, work to strict deadlines and work under pressure
· A current UK driving licence and a commitment to regular travel across the area
· Basic Disclosure

Ideal attributes of candidates:
· Experience of working with the Civica APP (Flare) computer system.
