VAT Accountant

Description

ASA Recruitment are currently recruiting for a VAT Accountant to work with our client who is a well-established public body on a 1 year contract

The role of the VAT Accountant is to ensure the organisation pays the correct amount of tax whilst maximising the efficient and effective use of limited financial resources

Duties
· Lead on engagement with the finance team and operational business partners in respect of the quarterly VAT return
· Have responsibility for the compilation of quarterly VAT return.
· Liaise directly with HMRC VAT Team in respect of VAT reviews: ensuring that deadlines and key milestones are met.
· Promote VAT through the use of finance business partner meetings with colleagues throughout the organisation.
· Promoting good practice across the finance team and wider business
· Assist in all tax related enquiries and where necessary liaise with other relevant parties
· Play a full and active part in the day to day relationship with HMRC.
· Work with colleagues within Finance and other parts of the Scottish Administration in improving VAT correction and transaction processes ensuring that they comply with legislative requirements.
· Provide timely, accurate and relevant VAT information, including in relation to the preparation of the annual report and accounts.

Candidate
· Qualified accountant chartered status preferred but not essential
· Knowledge of UK tax procedures specifically relating to VAT
· Ideally experience of working within the public sector
