CIS Award Winners

Our favourite night in the Hospitality calendar is over once again and what a fantastic evening it was.  Held at the Glasgow Hilton, the CIS Awards showcases the excellent talent and rewards the individuals, teams and companies who all give so much to Scotland’s Hospitality sector.

Unsurprisingly – the food was exceptional, a mouth-watering 4 course menu delivered by Derick Donaldson and his team from the Glasgow Hilton… the seared black king fish and ceviche being my personal favourite.

The event was hosted by BBC Scotland’s Catriona Shearer and Radio Forth DJ Grant Stott with the 16 awards being announced over the course of the evening. Alongside PIDY, I presented the Banqueting & Events Chef award to Craig Gibb from The Orde Food Company. Craig was a worthy winner, a young Chef who demonstrated a real passion for his role with excellent knowledge of local produce and suppliers.

The Young Chef of the Year was awarded to Adam Newth from the Tayberry restaurant and the Patisserie Chef of the Year to Ross Sneddon from the Balmoral. It was noted by the judges that the calibre of all of the nominees in these categories was excellent and both winners were young Scottish Chefs who both were working at top establishments and demonstrating real skills and knowledge – Great news for the industry and emerging talent.

Bruce Sangster was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, a fitting tribute to somebody who has worked at the highest standard for a number of decades and still works in the kitchen of his Michelin star restaurant in Fife – a real inspiration for all of the young Chefs receiving awards and in attendance on the night.

ASA are proud sponsors of the CIS Awards and my involvement with the advisory board in the judging process highlights the exceptional talent in the industry and across the Scottish Hospitality sector. Both ASA and I would like to congratulate all of the finalists and winners on the night – see you next year.
