There are many reasons children could be at risk of or become looked after. This could be due to enduring abuse or neglect in their home environment; having a disability and requiring additional care; being an unaccompanied minor who has sought asylum; or having encountered the youth justice system. Offering a competitive Social Worker salary of up to £30 per hour, our Scottish Borders based client is seeking a qualified Social Worker for a minimum of a year on a locum basis to support vulnerable children and families.

Responding to the needs of children and their families in working towards the facilitation of positive outcomes is a vital objective for the appointed Children and Families’ Social Worker sought in the Scottish Borders. Focusing on timely interventions to safeguard children and formulating plans in partnership with a multi-disciplinary team will form the foundations for achieving positive results for at risk children. Using your superb understanding of statutory guidelines and child protection policies, you will gather a more holistic perception of the situation(s) at hand; aiding systematic assessments. This will consequently provide you with the tools to decide upon the most suitable form of intervention for each particular child and/or their family.

As indicated above, the rewarding position of Children and Families locum Social Worker within the Scottish Borders will require some multi-disciplinary working with other health and social care professionals to support achieving the best possible results for your caseload. These could include Social Work Assistants, Family Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Counsellors. Coupled with having an appreciation of this, our Borders based client is seeking a locum Children and Families Social Worker with the following:

· Qualification in Social Worker with membership with the SSSC certifying this
· Availability to begin full-time, ASAP
· A PVG membership and willingness to undertake an update
· Experience working within a Children and Families service
· A UK driver’s licence

It’s desirable for the Scottish Borders’s Children’s Services Social Worker locum to have a UK drivers’ licence and access to a car.
As a Social Worker working with vulnerable children and families, it is anticipated that you will have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt these to suit the nature of the situation and person group that you are in at all times. You will also show a commitment to Social Work principles and demonstrate these in your practice in order to ensure the deliver high quality of services to those in your care.
