Are you a qualified legal professional who has experience of working with vulnerable witnesses? We are seeking a Statement Taker to assist in a high profile public inquiry for an initial 6 month contract in Edinburgh. As a Statement Taker, you will play a critical role in gathering evidence from those who have been abused in care which will involve questioning them in private sessions.

As Statement Taker your duties will include the following:

· Lead sensitive private sessions with vulnerable applicants
· Lead and prepare complex interviews with other witnesses who have been involved in the care process
· Work closely with another Statement Taker who is taking the lead for a private session or interview
· Take detailed notes of the private session or interview and have responsibility for audio recording the session
· Prepare a witness statement, based on the private session or interview and the audio recording
· Work closely with the legal team in preparation of complex interviews
· Liaise with the Witness Support Team about how to look after witnesses who have been abused
· You must be willing to travel. You may also be required to stay overnight near the venue of a private session. You will be expected to work in the Inquiry’s offices on a regular basis.

Desirable skills:

· Experience of working with people who have been abused
· Experience or understanding of issues facing vulnerable witnesses and of trauma
· Excellent IT skills
· Qualified as a solicitor or advocate
