Are you a Service Manager looking for a new and challenging opportunity?

Our well-known Public Sector client is looking for a Service Manager to lead and coordinate the strategic development of Fleet, Recycling & Waste services on a permanent basis. The post holder will be responsible for securing best value from the council’s substantial expenditure on fleet assets as well as managing the contracting of disposal and processing requirements for the waste handled by the authority.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the management team in the strategic implementation of agreed direction of Operational Services
  • Design, develop, manage and co-ordinate all operational aspects of the provision of fleet, recycling and waste services to achieve best value and meet key priorities, set objectives and performance targets
  • Prepare policy and procedural guidelines for the service and conduct regular checks and audits to ensure full compliance
  • Monitor and review working practices, information systems, cost structures and operating procedures to identify scope for efficiency, effectiveness, cost or resource improvements
  • Management of the fleet, liaising with service users and key contacts regarding repairs, servicing and replacement of vehicle and plant assets
  • Identify and follow up opportunities for attracting external funding
  • Monitor legislative change and best practice in fleet and waste, recommending consequent amendments to service procedures
  • Ensure information regarding vehicle use, driver and waste related issues is distributed to members, managers and colleagues

Essential Requirements:

  • Educated to SCQF Level 11 (Masters Degree, SVQ Level 5, etc.) in a relevant discipline such as Environmental, Fleet or Waste Management or substantial equivalent experience
  • Strong working experience in a supervisory or management position
  • Membership of relevant professional body
  • Specific operational knowledge of HASAW etc. Act 1974, Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and guidance pertinent to the sectors covered by the role
  • Ability to drive service delivery to a consistently high standard
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
