Description

Our client in Aberdeen are looking to recruit a Roads / Highway Engineer on an initial 3 month placement with the option to extend. The postholder will contribute to the client’s civil engineering service, undertaking feasibility studies, design, contract preparation, contract supervision and project management of civil engineering projects up to £1m in size

The typical working week will be 37 hours ( Monday to Friday ) with a negotiable PAYE day rate based on the candidate’s previous skills and experience along with holiday accrual pro rata of hours worked

Main duties of the role:

* Project manage small to medium sized civil engineering projects
* Undertake investigation, feasibility and appraisal studies for civil engineering projects
* Undertake / manage consultant liaison and contract management
* Perform / manage land, traffic, environmental, geological / geotechnical and other site survey
* Prepare reports and other communications
* Undertake estimating and contract preparation
* Undertake procurement processes and assessment of tenders
* Undertake works supervision on site and contract management
* Undertake financial control and monitoring of contracts and project budgets
* Undertake Roads, Traffic, Road Works and Flooding Authority responsibilities relevant to the team’s work
* Assist in the development of technical Corporate Policy

Minimum qualifications / certificates / memberships required:

* A Chartered Engineer / Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and a member of a relevant institution
* Educated to Degree level with Honours in a relevant engineering discipline
* Substantial relevant civil engineering experience

Postholder must be able to demonstrate skills and experience in the following:

* Project management including design, contractual and financial control
* Selecting techniques, procedures and methods to undertake engineering tasks
* Contributing to the design and development of engineering solutions
* Delivering projects on time and evaluating design solutions
* Using oral and written methods effectively for the communication of technical and other information to professionals, elected members and the public
* Identifying, organising and using resources effectively to complete tasks
* Thinking independently and using innovation to solve problems
* Managing and applying safe systems of work
* Competently using computer systems and programmes.
* Highway design and construction
* Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning concepts
* Roads, Traffic, Transportation, Planning & Building related legislation, procedures, advice and best practice
* Engineering contract documentation
* Land / topographical surveying
* Producing estimates and checking valuations
* Works and services procurement concepts
* Project management and governance concepts
* CAD applications

The postholder must be willing to work outside in all weathers, work at height and in confined spaces and work outwith normal hours when required
