Witness Support Officer

Description

To support the successful achievement of a large Public Inquiry’s objectives, they are looking to on board Witness Support Officers. The Witness Support Officers will form part of the critical interface between those engaging with the Inquiry and the Inquiry team and provide continuity of contact with witnesses through the various stages of the Inquiry.

The successful candidate will:
· Be able to work at a trauma skilled level, demonstrating an understanding of the complex factors involved in engagement with Inquiry witnesses and the impact of trauma
· Manage a caseload of witnesses at different stages of the Inquiry journey, including planning and arranging the taking of statements via private sessions and statement reviews
· Manage the safety of witnesses while they give their evidence while
· Support Inquiry investigations, working closely with the Inquiry’s legal team
· Ensure there is a coordinated plan of action in place to achieve desired objectives. There are several sensitivities which will require careful handling and management and there will be frequent dialogue and with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders

What you will bring to the role:
You will have strong, clear and consistent, communication skills that not only allows you to speak with both internal and external stakeholders, but also to speak with witnesses about very sensitive information. You will have a high degree of personal resilience and be willing to participate in the Inquiry’s group reflective practice sessions with a clinical psychologist. As the Witness Support Officer you will bring an agile approach in response to an ever changing environment, including adapting to policies and practices as they evolve.
