Advice

Be prepared

At ASA we believe that you should always be prepared, especially when it involves your career. So we've put together some helpful advice to get your CV finalised and your interview polished. And if you need some help, you can always call us.

A CV that works!

First impressions last and your CV can be the first opportunity to sell yourself. So you need to make sure your CV really stands out! At ASA we can help you make a successful job of it. Just follow the tips below:

  • Use headings: they give the reader a brief idea of what each section is about. Choose just one or two words that best sum up the section.
  • Don't use more than 6 headings on a page. Too many can be distracting.
  • Make sure you include the headings below:
    • Name and Contact Details
    • Objective / Personal Statement
    • Education
    • Relevant Skills
    • Employment History
    • Other Relevant Details eg outside interests
  • Keep the information as brief as you can, just enough to make your point. These days no one has time to read through long text.
  • Use active instead of passive style to describe yourself.
  • Clearly state the names, types, and models / versions of important equipment / software you have learned to master.
  • Mention any languages you use and the level you are at eg basic / intermediate / advanced.
  • List your employment history including dates (months & years) and job titles. Always start with the most recent role and emphasise it more than the others.
  • Use bullet points to break down each role.
  • Never make false claims and ensure you explain any gaps eg a career break / travelling. This could be picked up and ruin your chance of success.
  • Don't include your salary - it can be negotiated once you have the job offer.
